This is the last in the series on how to keep your pool clean the easy way.
We used to use the chlorine tablets, powders, etc. Then, the kids started to have reactions (red eyes, ITCHING, etc.) to the chlorine. We searched, and started to use the Bacquacil system. It did work, but WOW - was it expensive!
Then, I heard about a salt chlorinator system. At first, I (wrongly) thought it turned your pool into ocean-like water - HA!! No, it does a chemical reaction with dissolved salt into sodium hypochlorite. No more red eyes. No more itching.
This is very easy to use! Plug it in, set the timer (I run it 5 hours every night), and that’s it! As long as it stays plugged in, it will turn on daily, whether you forget it, or are gone. It also has a flow sensor to let you know if it’s not getting enough water to flow through it (which might mean you need to backwash the filter). It will also let you know if you need to add more salt if it reads “low salt”, or if there is too high of a salt concentration, in which you would need to add more water to dilute the salt.
This system costs way less than either chlorine tablets/powders or Bacquacil. For my size pool (15,000 gallons), I used 4 1/2 bags of salt. That’s it for the year!!
As for cleaning the plates that does the generating of the chlorinator, it’s easy - unplug the system, shut off the water intake and outlet water hoses. Unscrew the caps for the electrolytic cells - pull the plates out, and soak them in white vinegar for an hour or so. Rinse them off, and reverse the process for removing them.
