Homemade yogurt is cheaper, and easy to do! Matter of fact--my son says that our homemade yogurt is WAY better than store bought!!
We like this recipe for vanilla yogurt:
4 cups milk--bring to a boil, and then let cool.
6 tablespoons sugar (or your favorite sweetener)
1 tablespoon vanilla
6 ounces room temperature plain yogurt with live cultures
After the milk has been boiled, and cooled, you can strain it through a wire mesh strainer, or use as is. Add in the sugar, and vanilla. Gently stir in the room temperature plain yogurt.
We love this yogurt maker! Euro Cuisine--it makes 7, 6 ounce containers of yogurt. It is so easy to use! I have made yogurt many ways (in a cooler with a hot pad, etc.), but this is so easy. You pour the yogurt mixture into the jar, do not put the cap on it, and plug it in, turn it on, and let it go. The little time marker is rather lame, I must admit. It does not have a timer, but a time marker--so, if you know how long to let your yogurt culture for, you move the top cover piece to the time you want to stop it. I don't use that, I set a regular timer. We use 2% milk, and let it culture for 10 hours. You can go longer for a more tart yogurt. This is what we like.
When it is done culturing, place the white lid on, and put it in the refrigerator. When cool, enjoy!! You can enjoy it as is, or add granola, or fruit--you are only limited by your imagination.
Here is my amazon affiliate link, I do earn a small amount (at no extra charge to you). Thank you for stopping by! This is a GREAT price--it is regularly $40, but they have it on sale for a little over $22!!

This measuring cup is really nice, and easy to use: Angled Measuring Cup
Please make sure your plain yogurt is fresh! If it isn't, you might end up with a runny yogurt (ask me how I know!!). If you do end up with runny yogurt, you could culture it longer. Or, you can make it into a homemade Yo-J. We like to mix this with a fruit juice, and shake it up. YUM!
