Leifheit Cherry Pitter

My sour/pie cherry tree is in full swing!  Matthew and I picked 8 cups of cherries today.  And there are many more!!!

So, to make lighter work of a tedious job, I have a Leifheit cherry pitter.

Funny story - years ago, when the cherries were just starting, I had been using a knife to get the pits out. I thought there must be something easier to do it!!  So, I called my nearest kitchen shop (my dad used to call them “junk stores” - LOL!).  They said they had one!!!  So, my dear sweet husband drove 45 miles 1 way.  I laughed when he showed me!!  It was a handle thing, that you put 1 cherry in, and squeeze the handle, and it pushes out the pit.  Then you reload.  Ugh.   Well, it was a little bit faster than with a knife, but still, there must be SOMETHING!

Then - drumroll!!!  I found this!!!  Amazing!!  You can fill the hopper up, push the handle, and it pops the pit into the lower container, and the now pitted cherry rolls down into your bowl.  Because my cherries are a little on the smaller side, I slow them down, for going down the chute.

But, this is so easy!  We got 8 cups of cherries, washed cleaned, and pitted in about 20 minutes, the longest time was washing and de-stemming, and sorting.

Now, I am going to make some yummy FRESH cherry cobbler!!!

You can buy it on Amazon for a decent price!!  Leifheit Cherry Pitter. & Prime free shipping is always nice!  This is my Amazon Affiliate link, if you buy here, it doesn't cost you any more, but provides me a small fee.  Thank you!

I’ve had mine for about 15 years!!  And still going strong!

Here is my finished Cherry Cobbler:  (recipe below)

Fresh Cherry Cobbler:

2 Cups Fresh Cherries, Washed, sorted and pitted
1/2 Cup Sugar
~Mix cherries and sugar in a microwave safe bowl, and microwave for a minute or two.

In a small bowl, combine:
1/2 Cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/3 Cup Sugar
